The World Alliance for Transforming the UN (WATUN) was created to encourage the United Nations to hold an Article 109 Charter Review Conference to determine what must be done to uphold and fulfill the mandates and obligations of the Charter and the international commitments and agreements that it so often makes.
In 2000 the Heads of State agreed in the Millennium Declaration that they would "Spare no effort to: Eliminate poverty, end war, abolish hunger, and provide all peoples with their basic human rights." But this has not been done to date.
Article 28 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that "everyone is entitled to an international and social order sufficient to provide and ensure these very same rights." WATUN thus calls on the UN Member States to organize and hold a UN Charter Review Conference in order to take the steps needed to achieve these goals and to create a much more effective system of global governance.
